PCC Cook Attends Italian Workshop

Ezra Takeo, PCC Food Service Supervisor

Every two years, there is a week long workshop held in Italy for farmers and fishermen around the world. However, this year was the first that this workshop included chefs and cooks.

Therefore, Ezra Takeo was selected to attend this workshop along with 4 other Palauans, Patrick Nestor, Goretty Masayos, Dorothy Ueda, and Apollonia Ngirchechol. The topic of this year's workshop was entitled "Slow-food Workshop". This workshop focused on organic food and how they are grown. About 6,000 participants from 150 countries attended the workshop; 1,000 of whom were chefs and cooks.
Because of this, most of them were interviewed for a book about the chefs and cooks all over the world. Takeo was interviewed about PCC and PCC CRE and how the college is promoting organic

food. At the Workshop, Takeo presented coconut candy and PCC CRE products such as the taro flour and taro pancake.

Takeo thanks PCC for the opportunity to attend the workshop. It was a great experience for him; therefore, he hopes that he will be able to join the next workshop in 2008 and bring more PCC CRE products to present.

Pohnpei State Organization Tours Babeldaob

Eighteen Pohnpei State Organization (PSO) members headed out to Babeldaob this past weekend to tour. Their first stop was Ngerulmud, the new capitol building in Melekeok. There the students were amazed as they were briefed on the history of the capitol movement as written in the constitution, the permanent

transfer of the capitol to enable the spread of the economic development in Palau, and the significance of the capitol structure and engineering to promote the democratic principle just as the United

States capitol building, and the compact road. Afterwards, they headed out to Ngirngemelas Square in Ngiwal before stopping at Bethania High School in Ngaraard for lunch and a tour of the campus. After visiting the east coast of Babeldaob, the students went around the other way to Ngermeskang, Ngaremlengui where they toured PCC's Cooperative Research and Extension Station and learned about its agriculture research and its importance to the local community.

The Pohnpei State Organization members would like to thank Mrs. Limasang Tem, BHS Principal, for allowing the students to tour their campus and have lunch there. They would also like to thank Dean of Students, Marensia Edward, and Director of Student Life, Deikola Olikong for their support in making their trip possible.
