upping them one game ahead of Ngerbeched. Taking the manager's advice to heart, Mesekiu players opened the fateful game six with a swift six run lead in the first inning and never looked back. Ngerbeched put two on the board in the third inning but the Mesekiu players, seemingly sensing victory, continued to expand their lead with more runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and another in the seventh. Ngerbeched's token runs in the seventh and ninth inning were not enough as the Mesekiu team concluded the momentous game six as the 2008 Palau Major League Champions. "By the seventh inning, I was already summoning the media, I had a feeling that we would be the champs after that game," recalled Ngiramengior. "We resolved not to repeat our last year's fate, and we did not!" This epic win, according to Tellei, actually brings full circle a winning cycle that began decades ago with the predecessors of Palau Community College. "Palau Intermediate School and Palau Vocational School had champion baseball teams and renowned players such as MOC/PCC alumni Ngirchochit (Continued on page 3) See back page for our special Alumni Notes section featuring players from the Runner-Up Ngerbeched Team who are also alumni of MOC/PCC. |

"There will be no repeat of last year!" That was the battle cry of the Mesekiu baseball team as it made school history on Tuesday by becoming the first baseball team to bring the Palau Major League Baseball championship trophy home to Palau Community College. The pointed slogan served as reminder for the team not to replicate last year's anticlimactic performance which saw it take the pennant but not the championship. "I am very happy for our Mesekiu baseball team! They have indeed made history by becoming the first college baseball team to become champions and I congratulate all the players for |
their superb performance," an ecstatic PCC President Dr. Patrick U. Tellei said. The Mesekiu team, only in its second championship appearance since its formation in 2002, faced the more seasoned team of Ngerbeched with the likes of veteran players such as Alonz Moses and Ngirmeriil Felix Francisco. Fourth game into the best of seven series and the contest was even at two games each, with all indications hinting at a deciding game seven. Mesekiu team manager Todd Ngiramengior said he knew that a long drawn out contest was not to his team's advantage and thus passed them to clinch the series in game six, after the nail-bitter win game five, |

`Tuesday Night' Program Focuses on Self-Discipline |
||
|
To better help the students make the best of their remaining weeks of school, the Student Life office hosted the last `Tuesday Night' Program for this semester, focusing on Self-Discipline through a documentary film Chasing The Dream. Chasing The Dream by the Micronesian Seminar Productions, featured decorated Micronesian athletes in their respective sports. The athletes revealed that self-discipline is the primary factor to which they achieved their goals, each explaining their obstacles and how they overcame them to fulfill their dreams. The film also mentions the importance of being focused, giving more effort, being disciplined, and dedicated in whatever one is striving to achieve. In a summarization of the film by Counselor Winfred Recheiungel, he |
mentioned that self-discipline is an individualistic character, it starts with an individual. Self-discipline is "knowing yourself and what's good and bad for you; know who's in authority; overcoming obstacles and not being afraid or shy to do so", he said. He also encouraged the students to push themselves to attain their goals, to identify their weaknesses and improve on them. This was the last `Tuesday Night' Program for the semester as school will conclude for the summer break. The program will resume when school begins in the fall.

(Continued from front page) Tolngii and others. Micronesian Occupational Center and Micronesian Occupational College teams were active participants of the league, but unfortunately never made it to the championships. Now with PCC's win, we can say that the cycle has come full circle- and what better to punctuate it with than the much coveted trophy," said Tellei, recollecting the earlier years of baseball at the College. The Palau Community College Mesekiu Baseball Team organized in 2002, ten years after the transition of the Micronesian Occupational College (MOC) to Palau Community College in 1993. Team Manager Ngiramengior and Coach Norman Sato have been with the team since its inception. Also involved in the formation years of the Mesekiu team are Koror Delegate Joel Toribiong and Felix Kyota. Both veterans of the game, they helped Ngiramengior and Sato to put down the basic foundation for what is today a champion ball club. As Palau's college, Palau Community College does not celebrate alone but rather shares this historical moment with all people of Palau, especially baseball fans. With this, PCC extends profound appreciation to all of its supporters and fans throughout Palau. It also thanks the students, staff, and the school leadership for their support, especially the Cafeteria |
staff, Project Beacon office, Development office, Vice President Taro, and President Tellei. For the less-than-happy fans of Ngerbeched, Airai and the rest, PCC President Tellei shares these words. "Ng kuk temel a PCC- It's our time to shine!"

In preparation for Internship placement for Summer 2008, the number of students who will be participating in the internship training and their respective trade areas is needed at this time. This will allow Extension Program Coordinator, Vincent Ito time to identify and secure commitments from appropriate employers who will be providing training to the students. Academic Advisors are requested to review their advisees' folders and to advise those who will be eligible to participate in internship training to come to Academic Affairs office and see Vincent and fill out required application forms. Application forms are now ready for pick up anytime during working hours from Monday to Friday. |
Deadline for submission of completed application forms is Friday, May 16, 2008 in order for students to be considered for internship placement. Internship is provided as a final requirement for students who have completed all their course requirements on campus or at most have one remaining to be taken concurrently with the training. It allows students to be placed on the job in their respective field of training working on a full time basis as intern trainee for the semester. The practical experience gained from the training will be counted as credits required for students to graduate. Your prompt assistance and support on this matter is much appreciated. |
