"All sub-committees have been tasked accordingly to ensure that

the Charter Day activities will be carried out successfully", said Ngirachitei. He also said that even though Charter Day is an official holiday for the College and that there will no classes, staff and students are encouraged to participate in the day's activities.

ACCJC Team Visit is Scheduled for April 2nd

As part of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) requirement, visits accompanying the Focused Midterm Report are normally one-day visits by a team of two members. Therefore, a two-member team, Chair Dr. Shirley Kelly, the former President of College of San Mateo and Dr. Lyn MacConnaire, the Interim Executive VP of Student Learning of Ventura College, will be visiting the College on behalf of (ACCJC) on April 2nd, 2007. This whole day visitation will allow the team ample time to meet with the President, Dean of Academic Affairs, Alvina Timarong; Dean of Student Services, Marensia Edward; Vice President of Administration, Jay Olegeriil; Associate Professor,

Marianne Temaungil; and Director of Admissions & Financial Aid, Dahlia Katosang and Director of Student Life, Deikola Olikong.

The purpose of the team conducting the visit is to verify the accuracy and relevance of the report submitted by the College in response to the specific action of the Commission, determine the extent to which the institution now meets the Commission standards cited in the recommendations, and to report findings and recommendations to the Commission.

The President encourages all to be available not only on April 2nd, but the rest of the week as well in case the two-member team needs to meet again.

PCC Takes Part in
Welcoming Hokule'a & Alingano Maisu

Hokule'a and Alingano Maisu are scheduled to arrive on April 1st and Palau Community College (PCC) will be taking part in welcoming this historical event. Aside from having the President as the Master of Ceremony in the welcoming ceremony, PCC's Tourism Club will be providing its services to the honored guests and all PCC Yapese students will also take part in providing logistical support. Another fascinating factor is that one of PCC Yapese students, Barney Sesario, has a close relative who is part of the Hokule'a and Alingano Maisu crew.

PHS Career Mentoring Activity at PCC

K.E.S. TS Participants Takes a Trip to Babeldaob

This past weekend, PCC parking lot was crowded with excited Talent Search (TS) participants from Koror Elementary School's (K.E.S.) sixth grade class, tutors, and parents who were about to take a Babeldaob trip for the students' Science and Cultural (Palauan) classes.

This trip included a visit to Ngerdok Lake in Melekeok State, Sualel a Iliochel and Debellel a Ngirngemelas in Ngiwal State, and Badrulchau in Ngarchelong State.

After arriving at Ngerdok Lake, the students spent about two hours studying the different habitats living in the lake. Then, they departed to Ngiwal State where they were guided by a local elementary school student to Sualel a Iliuochel and Debellel a Ngirngemelas. As soon as they finished touring, they headed to the mysterious Badrulchau in Ngarchelong State. Afterwards, they ended their tour with a luncheon at Ollei Port.

The students were exhausted, but enjoyed the beautiful scenic view as they were heading back to Koror later that afternoon.

PHS juniors: Ralph Mengidab, Warner Mitaro, Prince Rechebei, Jerome Renguul, Ucheliou Siangeldeb, Kiyoki Bells, Richelle Mechol, Norval Ngirachedeng, Verrette West, and Loserino Oran expressed interest in PCC's Construction Technology (CT) program so they are now working with the other CT students to gain some experience. One PHS junior, Isaiah Roberto showed interest in Auto Mechanics Technology so he is working with the AM students at the Auto Shop.

These students started their Career Mentoring activity this Monday, March 26th and will finish on March 30th.

This program is a one week work experience where students develop broad skills and knowledge through hands-on learning experience. This activity is designed to teach students some of the skills required in their career area.

As part of their grade, students will complete a guidebook that will help them understand the different careers in a particular field or industry in order to make a decision about their future careers. Students have gone through various career development requirements for the past two years and now have this opportunity to fulfill the real world of work experience based on classroom discussions and activities.

(l-r): Del Mad, Supervisor Arsenio Saburo, and Lance D. Ngiramengior pose for the camera at MOH's Maintenance Office.

Del Mad and Lance Ngiramengior are two PCC Electrical Technology (ET) students who are working at the Ministry of Health's (MOH)-Maintenance office. They both help service boilers, install computers, and work on anything that is ET-related and even help clean the office.

"Since working here, we have gained more knowledge about ET. We hope that we can gain everything we can from our Supervisor before he retires, so that one day, we can take over", says Ngiramengior and Mad. Supervisor Saburo said that they work based on work order and they have completed all of them. The students are well informed and are excited about ET so it's easier to work with them.

"We encourage PCC students to try work-study off campus because it gives one the opportunity to know different people and different offices", says the students. The supervisor and both the students believe that the program is very helpful, but they wish that more hours are included so that they can work on weekends as well.
