The Japan Foundation, a non-profit and special legal entity associated with the Government of Japan, has awarded Palau Community College (PCC) with the Library Support Program 2006 valued at approximately $8,000. PCC Conquers Airai, Takes PML Lead

2007 Mesekiu Baseball Team Members

On Friday, February 2, 2007 at Asahi Field, home of the Palau Major League, Palau Community College baseball team, Mesekiu, defeated the league leader Airai Aces (5 win, 0 loss) by a score of 4 to 2 and take the lead. The long awaited game between the two undefeated teams proved to be an exciting contest in front of the packed Asahi Field. Once again, Mesekiu ace pitcher Sureor Ngirailemesang maintained his pitching dominance by striking out 10 Airai batters in 8 innings while allowing only 2 singles and 2 walks. Ty Saiske came in relief and struck out 2 while singled and stole second base. Omsuul Yalap then singled to get on first base and moved Kyota to third base. Kyota scored on a sacrifice fly by Dekei Ngiramengior. A double by clean-up batter Caleb Meltel

brought Yalap in. Meltel later scored when Airai leftfielder misplayed a liner by Melengis Uchel.

Mesekiu Baseball Team gather after one of their victorious games at Asahi Baseball Field.

Behind superb pitching by Sureor, Mesekiu maintained their 4-0 lead until the 8th inning when Airai leadoff hitter Reagan Sidoi reached base on an error by PCC leftfielder and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Allen Bruno. In the 9th and final inning, Airai mounted a rally that had the look of an upset when closer Ty Saiske walked the leadoff batters to load the bases. A hit by Avery Mesubed brought in 1 run with the bases loaded. However, a timely conference between Pitcher Saiske, catcher Uchel, and the coach restored the pitcher's rhythm and brought the game to a close, leaving potential Airai's tying and winning runs stranded on the bases. Saiske struck out the next two batters and Tkoel Iyechad grounded to Dekei at third base who threw a strike to Omsuul at first for the final out.

The win leaves Mesekiu the only undefeated team, followed by Airai (5 wins, 1 loss); Ngerbeched (4 wins, 1 loss); Kayangel (3 wins, 2 losses); Ngardmau (3 wins, 3 losses); Ngerbeches (1 win, 4 losses); Koror (1 win, 4 losses); and Ngaraard (0 win, 5 losses).

The players and the coaching staff would like to thank their fans, especially the students for coming out to the field to support their team. Special thanks to the Cafeteria staff, Nixon at Maintenance and especially Adora at Project Beacon for energy bars.

The staff and students of the Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Program would like to extend their appreciation to the Palau Community College Environmental Science Majors

for volunteering as tutors of the UBMS students last Fall 2006. This Spring 2007, they have again volunteered their services to UBMS Program to tutor math, science, and other subjects.
