Vocational/ Technical Education Awareness Week Set for March

Sherman Daniel, Associate Dean, School of Technical Education

Work is well underway to prepare for this year's Vocational/Technical Education Awareness Week after President Dr.

Patrick U. Tellei's last month appointment of a committee to direct preparatory work for the notable College occasion.
The organizing committee which is chaired by Associate Dean Sherman Daniel is tasked with the overall planning and preparation of the awareness week, slated to coincide with the Ministry of Education's own awareness week during the second week of March. The purpose of the annually-held college event continues to focus on the promotion and advocacy of college programs and services to the community, most especially to high

school students who are prospective students of Palau Community College. Furthermore, the event aims to promote the College's vocational/ technical programs by providing an avenue for students to demonstrate competencies in their respective programs and showcasing their class projects to visiting high school students and community members.

This year's commemoration will be held from March 12-14, 2007. For more information about this year's awareness week, please contact Sherman Daniel at 488-2470/ 2471, ext. 254.

Focused Midterm Report Sent to ACCJC

The Focused Midterm Report for Palau Community College has been completed and sent to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges evaluates colleges every six years with a mandatory Focused Midterm Report in the third year of the cycle. This is a progress report on institutional responses to the team's recommendations and a brief summary of the activities undertaken to address issues identified by the institution in its self study.

The report will be reviewed by the Commission at its next regularly scheduled meeting and the institution will be notified as to what action it must take next.

PCC Mesekiu Suffers First Loss

PCC Thanks VP/ MOJ & LEEP Students

On behalf of the PCC Board of Trustees, Administration, Faculty, Staff, and most especially, the Students, President Dr. Tellei would like to thank Vice President and Minister of Justice Mr. Camsek Chin for the Law Enforcement Explorers Program (LEEP). This past weekend, LEEP students from Maris Stella, G. B. Harris, Koror, and Meyuns Elementary School and Palau High School picked up trash around PCC campus as well as around Koror. The students were accompanied by Chief Aguon, Officer Ruluked, Officer Kaluu, Officer Mariur, Officer Wong, Mrs. Marlene Aguon, Carrie Falig, and T-Knight Adelbai.

PCC thanks Vice President/ Minister of Justice Mr. Camsek Chin, LEEP students, Chief Aguon, police officers, and the other volunteers for donating their time during the weekend to help beautify PCC campus and Koror.

The Mesekiu baseball team's perfect record at the end of the first round suffered a blow when they lost to Kayangel on Saturday. The rain shortened game ended in the sixth inning with a score of 5 to 2. The usually potent offense of PCC Mesekiu was silenced by Kayangel pitcher Omengkar Nagata who earned a win with seven strike outs and allowed only two hits. While Kayangel ended the first round in the fourth place of the PML with a record of 4 wins and 3 losses, it has won all of its games in the second round and appear to be strengthening contention for the top spot.

On Tuesday, PCC bounced back and trounced the young Koror team via mercy rule in five innings by a score of 24 to 0. According to Coach Sato, the team must recapture its offensive rhythm in order to realize its optimum performance in the second round.

Accordingly, the daily mandatory practice will not only be intensified, but will focus more on offensive drills. Mesekiu remain atop the PML with win/loss record of 8-1.
