Maintenance Crew Beautifies Campus for Christmas and New Year

Water blasting driveways and parking lots, trimming trees and bushes...these are some of the many face-lifts that the maintenance workers are sweating and getting wet for this past week to ensure that the campus is spot clean for Christmas and the New Year. The College thanks all the maintenance workers for always keeping the campus clean. Thank you!

Remengesau Presents at 4th EMS Student Symposium

Shelley deBlair Remengesau, an exemplary student double majoring in education and environmental/marine science (EMS), presented her SC270 field study at the 4th EMS Student Symposium last week Thursday at Baderirt conference room. Remengesau shared the results of her study on Taoch er a Idederach: The Importance of Mangroves and Seagrass Ecosystems.

Through her extensive research, she concluded that there are four mangrove species, four seagrass species, and five algae species found at Taoch er a Idederach.

Remengesau stated that one side of Taoch er a Idederach had more species compared to the other due to the fact that one side was not a residential area, thus has less run-off and salinity. She also stressed the importance of the mangroves as a nursery for fish, seagrass as suitable habitat for crustaceans, fish, and many other animals, and algae as providing food for the animals.

Asked why she chose Taoch er a Idederach for her research, she said that it is accessible as it is located within the campus and that she tried to utilize and enhance what the College already offers.

The 4th EMS Student Symposium was funded by the National Science Education Program. Remengesau also received funding for her research project from the program amounting to $480 dollars.
