Over $30K Raised for Endowment, PCC Thanks All Supporters! |
||
|
With the support of the national and state goverments, local businesses, non-profit organizations, community groups, and private citizens, Palau Community College was able to stage a successful Thanksgiving fundraiser last week Wednesday, netting over $30,000 dollars for the Palau Community College Endowment Fund. Considering the current financial situation facing the Republic of Palau with the abrupt closure of a locally owned bank- patronized by more than seven thousand depositors including many state goverments, the fundraising event was a huge success. During the fundraising, individuals, businesses, and local groups won prizes from the event's raffle drawing. Deluus Polycarp won the Grand Prize #1 which included a Round-trip ticket to Manila, Philippines and a $500 cash prize. Grand Prize #2 winner was U-Corporation with a Round-trip ticket to Taipei, Taiwan and a Roast Turkey with stuffing, gravy, and |
pumpkin pie. Palau International
Coral Reef Center won the Grand Prize #3 which included a computer set &
printer from Computer's Plus.

Last week, the Technical and Vocational Educators of the Pacific Region arrived on the island to attend the week-long Sixth PRIDE (Pacific Regional Initiatives for the Delivery of Basic Education) Project Regional Workshop. The workshop focused on the role of TVET (Technical/Vocational Education and Training) in the Pacific Secondary Schools. Participants were from Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and a PRELBoard Member from Guam. As one of the highlights of the workshop, the |
participants visited Palau Community College to tour and observe its technical/ vocational programs. Before touring the campus, President Tellei greeted the participants and gave a welcoming speech. Then, the participants were split into two groups and visited PCC's technical/ vocational classes such as the Information Technology and Tourism & Hospitality Program just to name a couple. Afterwards, the participants had a Q & A session with PCC's Associate Dean Sherman Daniel. Shortly after, Mr. Winsley Degoba, the Assistant Secretary of TVET, spoke on behalf of the participants. He thanked President Tellei for allowing them to tour the campus and see its programs and stated that they were all very impressed with PCC and its programs. They learned a lot of different approaches from PCC's technical/ vocational programs that they may use in their own countries. They were also very impressed with the good collaboration among PCC, Ministry of Education, and the Palauan community as a whole in regards to the technical/ vocational programs here in Palau. |

Chuuk State Organization Tours Babeldaob |
|
|
Two weekends ago, the Chuuk
Student Organization members, like the Pohnpei State Organization, visited and
toured the new capitol in Ngerulmud Hill. While at the capitol site, Senator Caleb Otto took us inside the Capitol building and gave us a tour in the Senate Chamber and the Senators' offices. Afterwards, we drove to Ngaraard where we had a special lunch at Bethania High School (BHS). In the afternoon, PCC students and |
BHS students from the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) had a cultural exchange. This exchange was to celebrate the FSM National Day, a national holiday in FSM held on November 18th each year to celebrate the birth of FSM as a nation and a member of the international community. The cultural exchange continued throughout the day with students from different FSM entities performing their cultural performances. The day ended with students enjoying a smooth drive on the nearly completed Compact Road. Special thanks to Senator Otto and BHS Principal Tem for allowing us to tour inside the Capitol building and using the BHS campus. Also, special thanks to PCC Dean Edward and Director Olikong for making their trip possible. |

The UBMS staff and students would like to take this opportunity to extend their big thank you to Mr. Blelai for a good and useful workshop. To All Second Year Students and
Academic Advisors |
||
|
In preparation for Spring Semester 2007 Internship placement, we need to know the number of students who will be eligible to participate in the training and their respective trade areas at this time. This will allow us time to identify and secure commitments from appropriate employers who will be providing training to our students. To assist in this effort, Student Advisors are requested to review their advisees' folders and to advise those who will be eligible to participate in the training to come to Academic Affairs Office and see the Extension Program Coordinator, Mr. Vincent Ito, and fill out required application forms. Application forms are now ready for pick up anytime during working hours. |
Deadline for submission of completed application forms is Friday, December 22, 2006 in order for student to be considered for internship placement. Congratulations to both Mesekiu teams and to Petra Layan! A job well done!
