Over a Hundred Cleared, Classes Start Monday

New and returning students wait to clear their accounts at the Business office during registration this week
.

With fall semester classes set to begin next week Monday, hundreds of students, mostly new and continuing, flocked back to campus this week to register for classes.

Ms. Dahlia Katosang, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid said that she is pleased to see so many students choosing to enroll at Palau Community College. "I want to welcome all students from Palau, the surrounding neighboring islands in Micronesia, and the Asia-Pacific region", she said.

The Office of Admissions & Financial Aid meets with each new student to ensure that their required documents for admissions and financial aid are completed before proceeding to Business office for registration clearance. As a matter of fact, as of yesterday morning, they cleared over a 100 new students. The registration process officially ended yesterday but late registration, especially to accommodate students who traveled off-island to visit friends and families for the summer break, will continue throughout next week.

Classes will begin on Monday, August 20, 2007.

The PCC Board of Trustees, President, Staff, and Faculty Extends a Warm Welcome to All New, Continuing, and Returning Students.
WELCOME EVERYONE!

More Creative Writing -
Part II

Below is another writing by a student in Midori Mersai's English summer class who also submitted a paper for the in-class creative writing contest that was held in class. Good work, kids. Look for additional installments in next week's Mesekiu's News.

Classical poetry is filled with truth and warmth that comforts me every night. The old way of writing poetry was simple expression of natural beauty around us we see today. Its rhythm takes my breath away as the image is put into my mind. I can't get enough of it. In my experience, using it to romance a girl is an enjoyment in itself, to show how you feel to a girl you love. Using true words from the heart is an addictive form of compassion.

Thinking About Libraries for Your Career

Do you like working with people? Do you enjoy research and helping to make information easy to find? If you do, think about becoming a librarian. You can work in schools, government departments, research and academic institutions, as well as community and public libraries.

PCC offers two associate degrees for those interested in a library career: the Applied Science program, aimed at people working in school libraries, or the Science program, targeting those working in public, academic or government libraries.

The program's instructor, Pam Bidwell has just returned from six weeks in Europe, covering six countries, and is now getting ready for the new semester. Pam has more than ten years of teaching experience in New Zealand library studies programs, and looks forward to working with students in the Fall semester.

The program suits anyone interested in customer service with an enthusiasm for information and research - and you don't need to work in a library to enroll. It was developed for libraries within Palau and Micronesia, and gives library students the skills, knowledge, and effective work habits for any library setting. The program is fully accredited with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is eligible for financial aid.

Study full or part time - our programs suit those already working in a library, or anyone who wants to work in libraries in future. You'll study courses on: resource selection, understanding information resources and research methods, library media technology, book preservation, cataloging, school library media centers, library management and funding. For more information about this program, please contact Pam Bidwell at 488-2470/2471 ext. 240.
