PERSONAL MONEY MANAGEMENT One of the programs is personal money management, which is offered to both adults and youth. Participants learn to identify sources of money, record personal expenditures, and learn to prepare a budget to match the financial resources they have. They also learn to trim down excessive spending so they can live within their means. Other than face to face contacts, flyers, brochures, lessons, and newsletter articles were prepared this year to educate interested clients and to raise awareness about this program. Other clientele who are interested in entrepreneurship are introduced to the basic principles of free enterprise, customer service, learn their roles as consumers, learn to identify the different participants (consumer, seller, producer, etc.) in a market place, and the variety of roles they play in a traditional or free-market economy. The clientele is also taught the cycle of elementary record keeping for business. YOUTH EXPANDED FOOD AND NUTRITION EDUCATION PROGRAM (EFNEP) AND FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY PROGRAM (FSQ) Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Campaign
is an enrichment program for youth ages 5 -19 that aims to reinforce
the fact that having a healthy body means having a healthy mind
that would enable a student to make wiser choices in life. Lessons
in nutrition and food safety are integrated throughout the program.
Nutrition and Food Safety lessons include the effects of nutrients
on health, the skills for making wise food choices, and food safety
practices to prevent and reduce the causes of food-borne illnesses.
Hands-on activities included preparations of healthy snacks. Food
safety skills were put into practice during the preparations. NUTRITION AND DIET Food and Nutrition is an on-going short-term program designed to assist families and individuals in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary for healthy diets. Classes are two hours long and are held twice a week for six weeks at the convenience of the clients. Certificates of Completion are awarded at the end to participants who fully complete all the lessons. Participants of the program receive from extension agents a series of lessons, on the food guide pyramid, safe food handling and storing, meal planning, managing food budgets and resources, food preparation methods, and recipe basics. The program not only help participants to improve their diets but also to better control their economic situations by spending their food dollar wisely. ADULT FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY PROGRAM (FSQ) The Food Safety and Quality Program is implemented in conjunction with the Food and Nutrition Program and participants are trained during Nutrition workshops. Lessons in Food Safety include the importance on how to keep food safe and avoid food borne illness through proper storing, preparing, cooking, serving, and handling of foods. PERSONAL SEWING This is yet another on-going short-term program geared to help families and individuals attain the basics of clothing construction. It offers to the participants skills that can be used to save half of the high costs of ready-made garments sold at local department stores or utilized to generate additional income for them and their families. Classes run for six weeks and are held twice a week for two hours depending on the convenience of the participants. |
